Great site Panu - pity no 60s&70s when real music was made  wink

What is your favourite song from the listed ones?

You crazy  Uh? - it would take a month to read the >1,400 titles let alone watch them all  tongue

How on earth did they get all that material??

But as for the first on the list I did see "A Flock of Seagulls" live at the Cambridge Corn Exchange in - oo er - about 82/3. They had a unique sound (apart from silly New Romantic haircuts) and I was always rather surprised that they didn't do better.

Talking of original sounds I have a few Cocteau Twins cds but never had seen them much...

Actually had never seen a Bauhaus vid despite having a cd or two by them... Also Blancmange (but their vid isn't working)... And Danse Society - wow I finally get to see what all these groups looked like lol (and their synths  wink )

Hang on maybe I have got time to check them all out  wink - Chrome vid!!!!!!!!! I never even knew one existed - I was a mega-Chrome fan (and no-one else even the obscurantists had heard of them). 'Half Machine Lip Moves' has the best start to any album ever... some great lines 'I am not afraid of the Russians' (at the height of nuclear paranoia)... 'sand in the soup bowl, gray day in the campsite'... 'its someones world'... [That enuf! Ed.]

And well this has gotta be one of the contenders for best vid - Dead Kennedys 'California Uber Alles' - probably the only real punk band the US ever produced and a band with real (as opposed to manufactured) attitude - gets extra pure punk points for containing a punch-up between the lead singer and the audience in the middle (with loads of heavies piling in) - and the band plays on and the singer (whose name escapes me) gets back and continues the song - also shows a neat ability to keep singing in time while doing some body surfing  cool

OK thats it for now (I couldnt quite bring myself to click on Duran Duran 'Wild Boys' after watching the above lol) - a really wild site -

DONT CHECK THIS LINK OUT IF YOU WERE ALIVE IN THE 80s, LIKE(D) MUSIC AND HAVE WORK TO DO!!!!

Panu buddy - your membership fees are waved for this month for coming up with one of THE all time links on the www.

California Uber Alles.

...(grrr Panu!!!)

or Echo and the Bunnymen 'The Killing Moon' for a good example of how at the best New Romantic's managed poignance (esp the chorus (altho its crackly here)) - think its something to do with the guitars&synths combo..

Aaargh - good job I have let go of my past - I had completely forgotten that I once bought (must have been a weak moment) an Enya album and actually liked 'Orinoco Flow'  confused Talking of why did I buy that I might even have an Erasure cd buried somewhere  Uh? altho 'Sometimes' is well-made bland synth pop lol - talking of which Eurythmics 'Sweet Dreams' is to but by now its been overplayed and wears a bit thin..

On the Erasure side of things it occurs to me that there was a whole sub-genre of - erm - how can i put this globally politically cirrectly lol - er - homosexual bland synth pop (of which in the list Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, Soft Cell) - some good songs of that genre but not my kinda post-production parties lol.

And one really doesnt see people bashing things with hammers and metal pipes any more does one? Another dying art - altho I always preferred Test Department to the more 'sell-out' SPK  Happy - but a good vid of the techniques of real-rhythm 'what no drums no prob'.

Pity Squeeze aint workin' - they did some great songs. And of course most of (earlier anyway) Talking Heads is great  cool

In the MOR Cars 'Drive' is a well-made song.

Great vid from The Flying Lizards 'Money' - "your love gives me such a thrill - but your love wont pay my bills" lol

Oh no Jesus and Mary Chain Gang vid isnt working... But at least The Sisters of Mercy is (but far better 100x louder) - where did all the Goths go?
Talking of bland synthing (I guess they are all digital ones wink ) this guy wasnt short of one or two Gary Numan 'Cars'...

At the opposite end I always get confused between Iron Maiden and Spinal Tap  tongue

But back to real music 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' was Joy Division's poppiest (and cool venue after all the over-produced vids)- great line "there's a taste in my mouth as desperation takes hold" - altho' for me their best was 'New Dawn Fades'.

And sticking with anthemic post-punk Killing Joke 'Love like Blood' is great (at about 100x louder than my pc will play lol) - altho surprisingly bland/new romantic vid for them - I always recall them as looking far more threatening. Great line "strength and beauty destined to decay".

And for our north american listeners who if they have listened to half the above are probably in need of mouth to mouth recusitation  shocked - something a bit more MOR (ha ha) Martha and the Muffins 'Echo Beach' (and I never knew what they looked like either - but I wasnt missing anything lol).

Cr*p song (and Philthy Phil really outta stick to drummin at 160-180 rather than dancing lol) but as Panu thinks I look like Lemmy - one rather wonders what the post-production party was like when Motorhead and Girls School got together  Uh?

Post-JoyDiv New Order's 'Blue Monday' is one of the few songs which can probably lay claim to inventing a whole new genre of music...

Orchestral Manouevres in the Dark's 'Enola Gay' had huge impact at the time (I can recall where I was the first time I heard it (a freshers party at Clare College) but seems to sound a bit dated now.

'Song to the Siren' This Mortal Coil - a phenomenal singer (but her unique sound very similar to The Cocteau Twins;-) )

And more mainstream U2 'With or Without You' is a great song from the days when Bono wasnt a leading political figure...

And pure haunting synth New Romantic poignance at its best surely in Ultravox's 'Vienna' - cool vid too - one day I will work out what that song is about  confused   ... mind you its sounds like Midge lent his sythns to Visage who turned up the volume and played them all at once in 'Fade to Grey'

OMG someone tried to do a cover of Astronomy Domine Uh? (voivod) - whilst remaining very true to the original it does raise the question why?

Hmm Wire not working either.... and omg I never knew X-Mal Deuthscheland ended up by selling out and becoming poppy :faints: - not quite Incubus standard.

So there are some favourites Panu - none of which feature fit young ladies who seem to be having problems keeping a two-sizes too small bikini-top in the right place  tongue (and who is Salerno anyway? lol).

Well if one's gonna blow a morning (or Friday afternoon for those of you who havent checked this out yet) - this is a great way... And for those of you that dont like real music there is plenty of bland stuff in there too  tongue

[I will get that smiley one day lol]

It sounds like my plan to ruin Mike's business worked and now he's just watching music videos all day long Happy

I think the site has only links to videos which are stored at Yutube's, Google Video's etc. servers, and it just plays them in own window. Very simple system, but still lot's of hard work has been needed to gather all the information together. It would be wonderful if it was a Wikipedia type of open system thus allowing users to add more videos (links I mean) to the list and removing the non-working ones.

Never heard of the bands you mentioned Mike. Have you ever heard about Hanoi Rocks and the song 'Tragedy'? It was the only Finnish band I found from the list.

Don't click that banner on the 80's video site.

Ronnie James Dio rules!

Mike, if you say something about the Dead Kennedys to your friend Margaret Thatcher, she will temporarily ban you from tea parties and give you a bag of Beatles LP's to listen for. Hence, your taste of music is....wrong.

A fair advice to everyone, stay away from the punk music and don't click that banner. Life will be much easier that way Wink
